Friday, Jan 1 Yuki Teikei Haiku Society membership dues are payable. Domestic and Canada $32; Seniors, $26; International $40; Seniors $31. Mail check to Toni Homan, 9457 Mereoak Circle, Elk Grove, CA 95758.

Saturday, Jan 9       11 AM – 3 PM Yuki Teikei Haiku Society (YTHS) Meeting  (newcomers and guests welcome) at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum. Optional no-host lunch in the Museum Café at 11:00 AM, meet up at 11:45 AM, docent-led tour at 12 Noon of the exhibit  “Looking East – How Japan inspired Monet, Van Gogh, and other Western Artists”. Browsing the museum to follow. Monday, Feb 1 Submissions deadline (YTHS members only) for first 2016 GEPPO.
Saturday, Feb 13     1 PM – 4 PM YTHS Meeting, Markham House, History Park, 1650 Senter Road, San Jose. “Someone Called To Me” – Roger Abe. Current members will select past members’ haiku from the YTHS library to share with others.  Directions to the History Park. Write-up.
Saturday, Mar 12     11 AM – 3 PM Picnic (please bring a peanut-free dish to share) and garden tour ginko at Tilden Botanic Garden at Berkeley. Gather at the Visitor Center (to the left of the Main Gate, at the intersection of Wildcat Canyon and South Park Drive). Easiest parking is in the parking lot across from the Garden on Wildcat Canyon Drive. Directions to the GardenDavid Sherertz will be our docent for a garden ginko with writing and sharing time.  Lawn picnic potluck lunch first, bring blanket or low chair. Saturday, April 9 Noon – 3 PM  YTHS Meeting at Filoli Gardens, Woodside, CA. Cost for 12 or more members is $15; for fewer than 12 is $17 for seniors and $20 for all others. Optional lunch in the Gardens Café, Noon. Tour at 1 PM, poetry sharing follows. Garden website here; directions to the Garden hereWrite-up.
Sunday, May 1 Submissions deadline (YTHS members only) for second 2016 GEPPO.
Saturday, May 14    11 AM – 4 PM Tour and haiku poetry reading in the San Jose Japanese Friendship Garden Tea House, 1490 Senter Road, San Jose. Schedule is:

  • 11 AM – Noon Garden walking tour.
  • Noon – 1 PM On your own for lunch and ginko walk.
  • 1 PM – 4 PM  Featured readers, and then open mike.

Saturday, Jun 11     11 AM – 3 PM Haiga Party at Carolyn Fitz’s home, 225 Ryder Road, Scotts Valley, CA. Pot luck peanut-free lunch, followed by haiga and haibun completion opportunities. Call 831-335-2886 for directions. More details here. Write-up.
Saturday, Jul 9          6 PM – 9 PM Tanabata Celebration at the home of Anne and Don Homan, 10695 Morgan Territory Road, in the hills above  above Livermore, CA.  Newcomers and guests are welcome. Please bring a peanut-free dish for a pot-luck dinner. Call 925-443-9440 for directions.  Write-up.

Moon Viewing Party at Dyana Basist’s home, 2553 Harper Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95062. Harper is between Capitola and Brommer St.;  nearest cross street is Chanticleer. Parking is very limited.  Please carpool if possible.  Note more parking is available along Harper St. Please bring a peanut-free dish for a pot-luck dinner. 
Saturday, Oct 8        1 PM  – 5 PM  YTHS Meeting, Markham House, History Park, 1650 Senter Road, San Jose. A workshop on the art of haiku writing. Members will provide constructive advice on other members’ poems. Bring a poem for discussion..  Directions to the History Park.
Tuesday, Nov 1 Submissions deadline (YTHS members only) for fourth 2016 GEPPO.
Thursday, Nov 10 – Sunday, Nov 13 Haiku retreat at Asilomar Conference Center, Monterey Peninsula. Newcomers welcome. Set in a beautiful natural landscape. Opportunities to learn from other experienced poets and artists. More details can be found here.
Saturday, Nov 19       11 AM – 4 PM Planning Meeting for 2017 YTHS activities at the home of Patrick Gallagher, 718 Rosemont Ave, Pacific Grove.
Saturday, Dec 10       5 PM – 9 PM Holiday Party at the home of Patricia and Al Machmiller’s home , 6116 Dunn Avenue,  San Jose, CA.  Potluck dinner, please bring a peanut-free dish to share. Guests and newcomers are welcome. It is a tradition of this annual party that the poets exchange a holiday card haiga with the other poets. Thirty copies of the haiga card are likely to be enough for the exchange.
